Everything You Need To Know About Motorcycle Helmets

By JamesBrown, September 3, 2010 1:45 pm

Riding a motorcycle is fun, but can be very dangerous. Motorcycle accident statistics consistently show that riders who wear helmets are much less likely to die in motorcycle crashes.  How do you pick a motorcycle helmet?

Well, first of all, before you ever get hurt in a motorcycle accident you should get a copy of my Missouri accident guide, “I Survived! The Crash Victim’s Guide To Dealing With The Aftermath,” so you know what not to do to hurt your insurance claim. Accidents happen fast—and if you aren’t prepared off the bat, you could ruin your claim before it even begins.

But, back to the main point: there are three major types of motorcycle helmets.

The first type is called full coverage—these are the safest according to motorcycle accident statistics because they cover the head completely down to the back of the skull and have a front bar that protects the chin. The second are open face helmets, which  do not protect the face but cover the back of the neck. Last are half helmets, and these cover only the top of the head and are the least safe.

You should also make sure that your helmet is certified by the Department of Transportation, or even better, by the Snell Memorial Foundation, which has stricter requirements than the DOT.

If you have been injured in a motorcycle accident make sure that you contact a St. Louis accident attorney to find out what options are available for you.

Car Crash Statistics Point to 5 Dangerous Things NOT to Do While You Drive!

By JamesBrown, August 31, 2010 12:00 pm

There are always new laws and regulations that try to encourage people to be better drivers. However, no punishment will ever work as long as individuals do not choose make good choices on the road, regardless of whether they are laws or not. A lot of car crash statistics point towards distracted driving as a major cause of fatal car accidents. As a Missouri injury lawyer, I want people to stay safe out there on the road. In my practice, I have noticed a few things lead to more accidents:

  1. Using your phone. It doesn’t matter how popular you are, if you have an important call, take it off the road. Distractions from cell phone use are one of the largest causes of fatal car accidents.
  2. Rubbernecking. A lot of interesting things happen out there on the road. You don’t need to look at it though. Keep your eyes on the road and off billboards, accidents, and flashy new cars.
  3. Food. Eating in the car is great, except for the fact that you aren’t going to be paying full attention to the road. Pull over if you’re hungry. Take your time; enjoy your meal!
  4. Looking for things. Everybody finds themselves looking around their car for something they misplaced. Here’s the thing: not only will you find whatever you’re looking for faster, but you won’t risk taking your hand off the wheel and your eyes off the road!
  5. Your pet riding shotgun. I know how much Fluffy likes to stick his head out the window and how excited he gets when you say “Car ride!” but pets can be seriously distracting to your driving. Plus, unsecured animals can get seriously hurt in your car. Always travel with your pet in a crate for everyone’s safety.

Even if YOU are driving safely, you never know when other drivers are distracted. If you are hurt in a car accident because of a distracted driver, you probably need need help recovering physically AND financially. A good Missouri injury lawyer may be able to get help to pay your medical bills—but not if you make one of the numerous common errors that ruin an injury claim before it even begins. If you have been hurt in a car accident and would like more information, don’t hesitate to request my free Missouri accident guide, “I Survived! If you are hurt in a car accident, you may have a lot of expensive medical bills. It’s not the first thing people think about when they are hurt in an accident, but you might want to consider talking to an injury lawyer as soon as you can. Why?

  1. You may NOT need a lawyer

Why would you talk to a lawyer first thing if you don’t need one? It’s simple—you may not need a lawyer, but you will really only know that if you talk to one first. Most Missouri injury lawyers offer free consultations for precisely this purpose.

  1. You could get hurt twice!

There are a lot of things you may not know about injury settlements that could cost you a lot of money—money that would’ve been better going towards help paying medical bills. Talking to a Missouri injury lawyer will give you some information to work from to prevent making the most expensive mistakes.

  1. Start your case ASAP

If you do have a good Missouri injury case, it is important to get started while you still have an advantage over the insurance adjusters. You are going to have a much better case the sooner a Missouri injury lawyer gets involved and begins fighting the insurance company for you. The insurance company isn’t going to wait to begin processing your claim and looking for ways to avoid paying out. Why should you?

What Should I Do If I am Hurt in a Car Accident and Don’t Have Insurance?

By JamesBrown, August 26, 2010 1:13 pm

If you are hurt in a car accident and do not have health insurance you have a few options.

First, you need to know if your car insurance policy includes any medical coverage. Usually MedPay is worth about $1000-$5000 and may not cover all your medical expenses. Many car insurance policies do not include medical coverage so always check to see if yours does.

A second option is to take a medical lien from a doctor. The doctor will then treat you, but expect to be paid back out of any successful Missouri car accident legal settlement. You should know, though, that if you don’t get a settlement, or if it is less than your medical bills, you will be in debt to the doctor—and still need help to pay medical bills.

That’s why it’s important to find a good Missouri car accident attorney. They are trained to fight the insurance company to get you help to pay your medical bills. If you want to find out what you need to know how to handle the aftermath of a car accident before it ever happens, request a copy of my free Missouri accident guide, “I Survived! Will I Get Lost Wages from a Work Related Injury?

By JamesBrown, August 25, 2010 1:04 pm

If you are hurt on the job in Missouri you may be entitled to receive about 2/3 of your wages for whatever time you missed. However there are some stipulations:

  1. You have to have missed work for a substantial amount of time. This is days, weeks, or months—not just an afternoon because you strained your back.
  2. You must have been hurt on the job. This means it must be a work related injury. If you miss work because of some other injury you probably aren’t going to be able to hold your employer responsible for those lost wages. (However, if there is someone responsible for your injury, like in a car accident, you may be able to recover damages from them to help pay medical bills)

A work related injury leads to a lot of stress and financial hardship. A good Missouri injury lawyer will help you, if you are hurt on the job, to recover your lost wages. Why should you get a Missouri injury lawyer? Because they are going to fight for your just compensation and a good one will know all the tricks that an employer or insurance company will use to deny your payment. Heidi Montag’s Plastic Surgeon Dies in Texting Car Crash

By JamesBrown, August 25, 2010 5:42 am

Fatal car accident statistics put the number of deaths due to distracted driving at 6,000 per year. One of the main causes of distracted driving is mobile phone use. Dr. Frank Ryan, reality star Heidi Montag’s plastic surgeon, died from driving off a cliff near his Malibu home because he was using twitter on his cell phone.

So many of these deaths are absolutely unnecessary and it’s important to take steps to prevent distracted driving. A good first move is to take Oprah’s No Phone Zone pledge. Many staff members at our St Louis law firm in addition to many of our St. Louis car accident attorneys have taken the pledge and we encourage everyone else to as well.

Sadly, many of the people hurt in distracted driving accidents are not the ones who were distracted. Those hurt in a car accident can just as easily be an innocent bystander obeying all of the laws. It is important to know what to do if you are injured or hurt in a car accident. One of the first things you should think about is if you should contact a Missouri injury lawyer. As we all know, hospital bills are expensive, and insurance companies are all too often reluctant to pay out. A St. Louis car accident attorney can fight the insurance company for you to help pay medical bills. A good St. Louis car accident attorney will provide you with a lot of free information about the fight with the insurance company and getting help to pay medical bills before they even tell you to come to their office. To know what to do after you are hurt in an accident or before you ever get in one, request a free copy of my Missouri accident guide, “I Survived! Fatal Car Crash Statistics Claim Men Get In More Accidents

By JamesBrown, August 23, 2010 11:02 am

It may be impossible to say truly whether men or women are better drivers, but the New York City Department of Transportation released a study concluding that 80% of the drivers involved in pedestrian accidents were men. Insurance costs back this up considering the average cost of insurance is lower for women than it is for men.

What could be the reason for the disparity? Social scientists think that men are generally more willing to take risks and are also more aggressive. This, they believe, could be a major factor determining why men cause more car accidents.

In reality though, a car accident victim is going to be hurt regardless whether they are male or female. Insurance companies are still going to try their hardest to withhold payment that could go towards expensive medical bills. If you are in an accident, you should look for a qualified and experienced Missouri injury lawyer to fight the insurance company and to help pay medical bills.

How do you tell if a St. Louis car accident attorney is right for you? You can measure them by the amount and quality of free information they provide. The best will always tell you exactly what you need to know BEFORE you get into a car accident to help you withstand what happens after. If you would like more information, request a free copy of my Missouri injury guide, “I Survived! The Crash Victim’s Guide to Dealing with the Aftermath.”

Hurt in a Car Accident? Don’t Sign Those Insurance Adjuster Papers Just Yet!

By JamesBrown, August 19, 2010 11:19 am

Getting hurt in a car accident is a horrifying experience. The first thing you want to make sure you don’t do is sign any papers right afterwards that might prevent you from getting help to pay medical bills. Before you sign any paperwork you don’t understand, it’s a good idea to speak with a St. Louis injury attorney.

An insurance adjuster will likely come and give you a release form to sign. This will give the insurance company the ability to access all of you medical and employment records. Why will they do this? Because they want to see if there is something in your medical history that they can blame for your suffering instead of the accident. If they can blame your back injury from your accident on a football injury in high school, they will claim they don’t have to help pay for your medical bills.

This is why it is so important to be informed about what to do if you are in a car accident. If you want more information you should request my free Missouri accident guide book “I Survived! The Crash Victim’s Guide to Dealing with the Aftermath.” This free book will also tell you the best way to find a good Missouri car accident lawyer—the kind of person who will get you the compensation you deserve to help pay medical bills, and the kind of person who will fight the insurance company for you.

Convict Found Impersonating Lawyer — Sent Back To Jail

By JamesBrown, August 17, 2010 6:48 am

This article reminds us how important it is to pick the right personal injury attorney:

A St. Louis man, Richard O’Donnell, was sentenced to prison after violating his probation by pretending to be a lawyer. He was found outside a downtown building impersonating a St. Louis bankruptcy attorney.

This is understandable. With the emotional turmoil prior to filing Missouri or Illinois bankruptcy, they simply chose the first lawyer who promised to give them protection from foreclosure, credit card debt help, and relief from their creditors. O’Donnell has left individuals already in a hard situation completely devastated. He charged them legal fees which he never returned and he never did any actual work on the cases.

This story serves as an important reminder that you MUST ALWAYS look up the St. Louis bankruptcy attorney that you wish to hire to decide for yourself if he or she has the ability to properly handle your case.

Don’t fall into the same trap that these victims did. There are plenty of Missouri and Illinois bankruptcy lawyers out there that aren’t qualified or experienced enough to handle your Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy in St. Louis. When looking for a Missouri or Illinois bankruptcy lawyer when you are distressed, always keep in mind that you need to stay calm and not to make any rash or emotional judgments.

Remember if you are injured in an accident to always do research on your attorney to make sure that they are experienced and qualified for your case (and actually an attorney!) I have compiled a bunch of tips on what to look for in my free book that you can request from my website, “I Survived! The Crash Victim’s Guide to Dealing with the Aftermath”
