Scott Wernle, a Highland Illinois farmer, was killed when he was run over by a tractor in New Douglas, Illinois. Scott had been trying to start his tractor trailer using a screw driver. A fiery crash in the portion of 1-64 that goes through East St. Louis left one truck driver seriously injured. In fact, the wreckage will cause the highway to be shut down until at least rush hour. Witnesses of the accident said that clouds of black smoke started billowing from the truck as it lay on its side with the cab crushed in. Rescuers got the driver out about an hour later on a stretcher and he was reported to have serious injuries. The clean up for the truck will be extensive, as the Illinois department of transportation has to wait for news on what to do with the diesel and hydraulic material. Continue reading
